    would you say, if Cameroon improve its roads then they will become culturally similar to Gabon. Does the whole of Europe have a homogenous culture because all the countries have good roads?

    The ancient USSR T38 tank was just a way of the USSR convincing the African despots that the USSR is helping them to stay in power. The T55 was a relative modern tank during the bush war. The world laughed at South Africa for fielding a wheeled infantry fighting vehicle against the T55. With only a 20 mm canon. This Ratel could circle a T55 faster that it could turn it's turret. The locally produced 20 mm canon round was also used on the mirage fighter jet. In the end, many T38 and T55 was destroyed by our innovative Ratels. Still lying around the Angola countryside.

    NOT just another "Brilliant Build", I would have liked to see you put in air bags in the rear as the benefits are awesome, levelling for camp site, keeping the headlights with the same focus not to mention if you have a varied load, the system adjusts accordingly. I have used the Accuair and BOSS airbags in the rear of my Defender for five years, never had a problem. Now I'm trying to find a 130 wreck for this very style of overland... great work!

      Thanks for the appreciation. We did install rear airbags during our trip through Turkey in 2017 and the improvement in handling and leveling was significant. We still have not found the suspension "sweet spot" but will address that soon.

    Very interesting to watch, it takes sheer determination to get up 6 days a week to work on it. Your video was in the YT recommendation for Land Rover Defender, as I'm in the process of converting a 110 to 6x6 electric. The process has started and should take 6 months for the 6x6 conversion, and another painful 6 months for the EV conversion.

    After watching most of the videos (The Americas and Africa) two important notes: Glad to see you safely arrived in SA BUT I have to mention your back passengers set up is highly illegal and more important extremely unsafe. In case of accident we talk serious consequences! Address that immediately before hit the road again! Don’t gamble! And for the future videos you probably should address the audio quality as well! Greatly improved in the last videos but still place for more. Otherwise, nice!

    • @GraemeBellOverlandingMan

      Thanks for the feedback! The rear seating is quite legal (in South Africa anyway) and the rear seats are surrounded by a security frame. When driving we exercise extreme caution and do not speed, we realise how precious our cargo is!

      @BenzinioB Год назад

      @@GraemeBellOverlandingMan I have never been afraid of MY driving... but once in the open road I'm afraid of the idiots around me! Уou can't protect yourself from drunk, drug or simply stupid driver! My strong advice is to change the direction of seating and add proper 3 point seat belt with tension! What applies to the first row seat should apply for any other and I truly believe (and witness) that saves life when shit happen! And shit happens!!! Safe travels!

  • @SingingXavier
    @SingingXavier Год назад

    I am really late to the party. Great advice, but I have one small thing to add which is that it is hugely advantageous to have a vehicle that fits in a shipping container. It is cheaper, easier, faster, much more secure and more available to ship in a container rather than a RORO. The height of the door of the container is the critical dimension 2.27m standard (20 or 40 foot) , 2.57 m for a HiCube (40 foot). For 4x4 not usually an issue but for vans it very much is. It is OK to deflate tyres, but you still need to be able to drive in and out.

      Why would we? Our battalion, 101 Battalion from Ondangwa, controlled the strip north of the border. Our troops was Owambos that hated the terrorist for planting land-mines in the Owambo territory. Resulting in civilian casualties only. So, in order to prevent terrorist penetration into Owamboland, we controlled the southern part of Angola. We had no intent to go further up north. Our army, not my battalion, occasionally destroyed air force basses further north. Only when the amassment of Cuban troops, East-German troops, and weaponry became a threat to Owamboland and Namibian farmers.

      I must admit that we only travelled through a small portion of the DRC. It was hot, humid, dusty and we were all a bit exhausted and spent from the visa issues we had experienced. We visited some friends in Matadi but besides that, we didn't do any specific sightseeing such as the gorillas or the Nyiragongo Volcano, amongst other sites.
